Snow White Belfast Murals

Since the 1970's, nearly 2,000 murals have been painted in Northern Ireland--the vast majority of them promoting the polarized views of the two political sides, either republican (mostly Catholic) or loyalist (mostly Protestant). Yet not all the paintings focus on political or religious differences.

Becoming increasingly popular are murals representing peace and tolerance, and a few avoid the political issues of Ireland entirely--hence we find Snow White. The mural on a brick wall depicts the Wishing Well scene. Located on Roden Street in south Belfast, Northern Ireland.

In addition, there's a series of Dwarf murals too.

Snow White / Star Wars Mashup

A Snow White/Star Wars mashup by Thumper-001...thumper-001.deviantart.com/art/Snow-White-n-7-Stormtroopers-72009594

Snow White n 7 Stormtroopers

Interesting details to note:
  • Snow White is of course wearing Princess Leia's dress and hair buns, but she still has her red bow.
  • They're in the interrogation cell room, but Snow is sitting on a carved wooden chair from the dwarfs' cottage.
  • The skull-faced apple from the Evil Queen's dungeon from the IT-O Interrogator droid employed by Darth Vader in his questioning of Leia.
  • Imperial insignias adorn the hoods of the dwarfs who have all donned stormtrooper uniforms.
  • And is that the apple on the back wall, a red Death Star, or a red planet?

Dream Portrait Series

From Annie Leibovitz's Dream Portrait Series came a Disney advertisement campaign for the Year of a Million Dreams. It featured celebrities as traditional Disney characters. The first three photos appeared in January 2007. A second round featuring three more--including Rachel Weisz as Snow White--came out in October 2007.

Four more Disney-themed photos were added January 2008, with one additional--Julianne Moore as the Little Mermaid--on April 25, 2008.

Snow White Serigraph Cels

A serigraph cel (or sericel) is a mechanically produced composite piece created through a silkscreen-like process called serigraphy. The image is transferred to layered acetate sheets. A serigraph cel is by no means an original hand-inked cel, although the design is usually patterned after one from the original movie artwork. As such, its value lies is in the eye of the beholder rather then in its historical significance. If you look to resell a sericel, it's probable that you will never recoup your original investment. Yet, they do make nice decorative wall hangings and can be quite gratifying if that is your intent in owning one.

A Snow White and Doc design was created in the 1980s by the Chicago Serigraph Workshop. They used the movie's original animation drawings as their guide. It is comprised of 17 mylar sheets--one for each color. Limited edition of 9500. Includes the Disney serigraph seal. Online, you can find it matted and framed with a variety of different backgrounds, although white seems to be the most common.

Another mat features the 50th Anniversary logo.

This one includes a background scene (plus a signature from Marc Davis).

The piece was listed in the Fall 1987 Walt Disney Family Gift Catalog. Retail price $104.95.
