ADDITIONAL NOTES:
  • The Walt Disney Company does not own the rights to the Snow White music. In the early days, they contracted out their music publishing to Irving Berlin, Inc. Starting in 1944, Bourne, Inc. took over the rights. Eventually, Disney was able to acquire control of all of their other movie music, except Snow White.

  • Prior to Snow White, a movie soundtrack recording was unheard of and had little value to a film studio. This all changed with the release of the 1938 three-record set from RCA/Victor.

  • The lyrics heard on some songs in that first Snow White record differ from what we hear in the official movie soundtrack today. This is most noticeable in the Silly Song and Heigh-Ho.

  • In addition to Snow White records, Snow White record players--such as the 1967 Spear Phonograph--were also produced.

  • The Disneyland Storyteller records were a series of LPs which featured a single narrator, accompanied by dialog, sound effects, music, and songs from the movie, all integrated to help to tell the tale. An attached storybooks came with the album, usually 10 or more pages in length. The text, however, did not follow the recorded audio. The disc format was 12", 33⅓ rpm. The 1957 Snow White storyteller record--no. ST 3906--featured Annette Funicello.

  • The Disneyland Read-Along records ("See, Hear, Read" series) featured a lone "story-reader". Yet, no other dialog, sound effects or music were incorporated into the recording. An attached 24-page book follows directly along with the audio recording, and a musical tone lets young readers know to turn the page. A song or two is included but only at the end, not as part of the story. The disc format was 7", 33⅓ rpm. For a detailed comparison between the Storyteller and Read-Along series, see the excellent Kennetti Database.

  • In 1987, Adriana Caselotti received a letter from Disneyland/Vista Records and Tapes, informing her that they were going to include an audio clip of hers on their upcoming Celebration Series CD. It was an interview piece from a couple years prior. As a token of gratitude, they sent her a check for $200.

A special acknowledgment goes out to all the generous people who shared images and information from their personal record collections, in particular Greg Philip and Nunziante Valoroso, who provided a substantial amount.
