Silly Song Snowglobe - 2008

Disneystore.com recently relisted this snowglobe from 2008. It features the "Dwarfs' Yodel Song" scene. Turn the key on the back, and it plays the Silly Song while Snow White and Happy spin around inside the globe. The forest animals peek through the window at the rear of the cottage setting. Made of resin, the piece measures 7.5'' tall and is 9.5'' wide x 8'' deep. Retail price $99.50 (USD).

Vintage Catalin (Bakelite) Pencil Sharpeners

These Snow White plastic pencil sharpeners date from 1938 and were manufactured by Plastic Novelties, Inc. of New York. Each measures approximately 1.25" wide x 1.75" tall and .5" thick. Both the Snow White and Dopey decal images are marked with "© W.D. Ent."

Although these pencil sharpeners are often called Bakelite in reference to the type of plastic they're made from, the Catalin Corporation actually took over the patent from Bakelite in the late 1920s. A new manufacturing process was developed which allowed for a wider range of coloring. The name was changed to Catalin.

On the back of the green sharpener (below) there's an inscription in black “Moody/Commission/Company.” This is the only time Hake's has seen a Disney Catalin pencil sharpener with the name of a business stamped on it--probably used as a store premium.

This round example sports a completely different decal than those above. Measures 1.125" diameter x .375" thick. Possibly dates from the 1940s.

1938 French Songbook (w/color illustrations)

Published in Paris by Salabert, this Snow White songbook was concurrent with the original 1938 European release of the film. Copyright Irving Berlin Inc. and "Walt Disney Mickey Mouse SA". The sheet music is a compilation for piano of eight songs from the movie (sans "The Washing Song"). With a total of 19 pages (including covers). Music is distributed over two pages per tune. Softcover. Measures 9.25" x 12.2" (23.5 x 31 cm).

Both B+W and color illustrations appear throughout. On the "Contents" page, Snow sings to what appears to be a distinctively European species of songbird.

UK Snow White Children's Album

The Snow White Children's Album features sheet music for all of the songs in the film (except Bluddle-Uddle-Um-Dum). The musical arrangements are simplified for kids and are accompanied by illustrations, most after original production sketches by Gustaf Tenggren. Contains 22 pages (not including covers).

Published in the United Kingdom by Chappell & Co, Ltd., licensed by Irving Berlin, Inc., and "By Permission Walt Disney – Mickey Mouse Ltd”. Dates from around the original release of the film, 1937-38.

A couple later printings licensed by Bourne Music Company, slightly higher prices. Late 40s and 50s.

The licensing fine print to the left of Dopey reads,"For the British Empire (except Canada, Australia, and New Zealand)."
