1938 RKO Danish Promotional Flyer for Snow White

Like the Danish flyer issued by Gloria-Film (in previous post), this advertising proposal (reklameforslag) would also have been sent to theatre operators. However, it was issued by RKO and probably not until late 1938. The official Denmark premiere of Snow White occurred on September 29th of that year, but the movie was re-released on Christmas Day in major provincial cities and later in smaller town cinemas.

The text on the front reads, "The movie everyone asks for!" (Filmen, alle spørger efter!) It also says "New copy!" (NY kopi!) This seems to indicate that more prints of the picture had come available for this new screening.

Inside the flyer are the Danish cast credits, the song list, favorable press reviews, and the usual buzzwords like--"a world success!" (En verdens-sukces!)

The back includes theatre promotional materials (reklamemateriale) and more info about the film. There's also a newspaper ad slick (annoncekliché) which was not included with the earlier flyer.

1938 Gloria-Film Danish Promotional Flyer for Snow White

This four-page promotional flyer was given to theatre-operators in Denmark to help with their Snow White campaigns. Distributed by Gloria-Film, it would have predated the theatrical premiere which occurred on September 29, 1938. Snehvide og de syv Dværge was one of several international dubbed versions of the film to be released during its premiere run. The dwarfs' word bubble reads, Vi taler Dansk! which means, We speak Danish!

Much like a pressbook, the flyer contains information about the picture and encouragement to theatres as to why they should screen it. The heading on this section basically says that no other Danish film has received better press than Snow White, so why not show it? Below are numerous positive review blurbs.

The back page has info on renting/purchasing advertising (reklamen.) tools--including posters (klichéplakaten); 24-page programs (tekstbogen); flyers (lobeseddelen); color photos (kolorerede fotos); trailers (traileren); and a box of woodcut Dwarf figures, about one meter high.

Carl Barks and Snow White

Artist Carl Barks was best known for his work on the Donald Duck comics. However when he started his Disney career in 1935, the Studio was in full swing on the production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It's well known that Walt Disney offered extra money ($1 to $5 bonuses) to any staff who came up with good gags to be used in the film. Carl had a couple.

These original drawings are his gag suggestions which he submitted. Graphite and colored pencil, four panels per page, with numerous production notes in the margins. Each panel measures approximately 4" x 5"; on 10" x 12" animation paper.

An article on Carl appeared in the 1992 periodical, Comics Scene Yearbook, and it featured a painting by him of a a toy room scene. The focus was on the ducks, of course, but Snow White makes an appearance too.

Carl passed away in the year 2000 at the age of 99.

1985 Snow White "Disney Collection" Book from Japan

In 1985, a series of  "Disney Collection" books were being sold at Tokyo Disneyland. One of the titles was on Snow White. Slightly reminiscent of the classic Snow White book by Brian Sibley and Richard Hollis, this Japanese volume includes images of collectibles, theme park attractions, plus the entire film story in pictures and text.

Introduced to retailers in 2013 and available in Europe in 2014, this Snow White wall clock is part of the Enchanting Disney Collection from Enesco. Measures 24cm high. SRP £35.00.

We saw in an earlier Archive entry, the 2015 figurine releases in the Jim Shore Disney Traditions collection. But there's more!
