1938 "House of the Seven Dwarfs" Postcards

The Ideal Home Exhibition is an annual event held in London at the Olympia (exhibition center). Because the Disney film was making such a splash in its initial theatrical run, the 1938 event included a replica of the dwarfs' cottage. There was also a Snow White "host" and several costumed dwarfs to greet guests.

This set of three postcards commemorates the occasion. Each features the same caption on the reverse: "The House of the Seven Dwarfs as built at Olympia, 1938, by Richard Costain Ltd., from the Walt Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

The exhibition was sponsored by the Daily Mail newspaper. "The House of the Seven Dwarfs" is mentioned in an April 7, 1938 ad for the event in the News Review.

In the last two photos, Snow White is pictured with Prince George--Duke of Kent and Mrs. Anne Chamberlain.

      It really goes to show what a big impression SWSD made during its initial run back in 1938.

    This is too, too cool! I wonder what happened to the house and it's furnishings when the exhibition ended? What a great little guest house that would have made for someone's backyard!

      It looks quite solidly built. I wouldn't be too surprised to learn that someone still has it in their collection somewhere, that is if they have a large storage facility to house it in. :)
