The "Story of" series of Snow White books were produced in 1938 by Whitman Publishing Company (Racine, Wisconsin). Sold as a boxed set of eight, each illustrated story book was devoted to one character--the princess and the individual dwarfs. Printed on an inexpensive pulp stock with somewhat heavier stock covers, they were designed to be read and colored by younger readers. Each title measures 7.5" x 11" and contains 24 pages.
Each of the books are marked 1044, and the set came housed together in an illustrated box.

This set appears on page 839 of Hake's Official Price Guide to Disney Collectibles (2nd ed.), 2007...
The books do show up for sale often enough online, both individually and as a complete set. Yet, they tend to be quite expensive. Finding ones that are free from marks and damage will obviously cost you the most.
Have a closer look at a couple of the titles:
I love the cover artwork on these! They'd look great framed.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! They have a real 1938-esque charm to them.
DeleteMe too ! This is wonderful, the box, the books (I never knew they even existed).
ReplyDeleteIs Snow White's Story the same as the movie or an "anecdote" ? :)
Not sure just what the Snow White story is. I haven't yet located the book myself to see inside.
DeleteI have the Turkish edition from 1939: it is based on the movie
ReplyDeleteThat's terrific Kaya! If you have some large, sharp scans/images of the cover, title page, and several of the pages inside, I'd love to do a blog post on it. If you are interested, I can be reached via email: http://www.blogger.com/profile/04715594290214114608
