The Snow White Art of Michelle St. Laurent

Michelle St.Laurent worked at Walt Disney World when she was in high school. Then after attending the Art Institute in Fort Lauderdale, she was hired by Disney Design Group where she created theme park merchandise. Michelle began painting for the Disney Galleries in 1998. Snow White Garden Flag

My wife spotted a Snow White "Garden Art Flag" at Walgreens a few days ago. So, of course, I had to go check it out. Designed for outdoor display, the nylon fabric banner hangs from a metal rod for placement in the yard. Flag measures 12.5" x 18". Pole stands 3' tall. Retail $9.99.

The illustration shows Snow in one of her many classic poses, but the artwork has a slightly updated look for the princess.

Manufactured by Kcare Kiu Hung in China.

I wasn't planning to buy it, just wanted to snap a few photos at Walgreens. But it's actually pretty cool when you see it in person. So here it is in my backyard. Makes for a nice lawn feature.

March Magic - Fightin' Seven Tee

With a play on the NCAA March Madness college basketball tournament, Disney is holding their own 2nd annual "March Magic" tournament. Starting yesterday, March 16, and running through April 12, the Disney Parks and Store will release a series of 32 team shirts featuring logos from the most popular theme park attractions.

The Fantasyland Fightin' Seven was one of the tees issued at Walt Disney World Resort and online. Features the Seven Dwarfs in a car from the Mine Train attraction. 100% cotton. Retail $24.95.

Item No. 7405056321581M.

The competition works like this: Two attractions are matched up head-to-head and guests vote online for their favorite from Disneyland or Walt Disney World. As the weeks progress, the winners will be narrowed down.
  • Round 1, March 16-23 – All 32 team shirts available online.
  • Round 2, March 25-29 – Down to 16 team shirts online.
  • Round 3, March 31-April 1 – Shirts for remaining eight teams.
  • Round 4, April 4-5 – Final four teams.
  • Round 5, April 6-7 – Team shirts for remaining two.
  • Winner, April 7-12 – March Magic 2015 winning shirt online.

The Fightin' Seven faceoff against the Flying Elephants in round one.

In the end, it's just a clever way of selling t-shirts, but we do get some nice designs out of it. See the Disney Parks Blog for more info and more shirts.

Bayard Snow White Alarm Clock from France

Bayard, was a 1928 Normandy-based company (named after a famous French Knight--Pierre Terrail, seigneur de Bayard). The company made a successful Mickey Mouse wind-up alarm clock in 1930. Their second Disney-themed piece was this Blanche Neige clock, first produced in 1938.

The clocks were available in a variety of colors--green, black, pink, cream, etc. Snow White sits in the center holding a bluebird which tilts left and right as seconds pass. The dwarfs and forest animals are paired with the numbers that encircle her. Dimensions: 12.5 cm high x 3.9 cm deep. The face diameter is 11.2 cm.

The hour and minute hands are shaped like tree branches with a red bird perched upon each.

Ten years after their first Snow White clock, Bayard manufactured a Pinocchio, then Donald Duck. From the 1950s, even more clocks were created: Pluto, Bambi, etc. This promotional flyer below includes instructions from making a paper clock for both Snow White and Pinocchio.

Snow White continued to be produced over the years. Here's an example with a 1977 copyright imprint, sans the red bird branch hands.

Bayard went bankrupt in 1984, and although several attempts were made in the 1980s to revive the firm, on March 13, 1989, the final liquidation of property was pronounced. The brand name, however, is still owned by Spiero Horlogerie.

Special thanks to Greg Philip of A Lost Film for sharing the images and information about this clock.
