Miscellaneous Snow White Hankies

Lots of Snow White handkerchiefs for children have been produced over the years. Cotton is the usual fabric of choice. Not sure about date-of-issue for most of these.

Seven Dwarfs Hanky from Genius Stationery

Seven Dwarfs children's handkerchief. Linen print. Measures 11" x 11". Licensed by the Genius Stationery Co. Ltd. The online seller says it dates from 1938 but the "© Disney" imprint (rather than W.D. Enterprises) makes us suspect that it might be much later.

1972 French "La vache qui rit" (The Laughing Cow) Handkerchief

A vintage French handkerchief features Dopey in a yellow outfit standing with a cow. The text along the top translates to pasteurized Laughing Cow, the brand name for a cheese. The cow is the dairy's logo. Measures approximately 8" x 9". "© Walt Disney Productions" imprint in lower left.

Special thanks to Elf P for additional info on this hanky.

The December 2, 1972 issue of Le Journal De Mickey included a La vache qui rit advertisement. They were offering 13 Snow White stickers, one in each box of cheese.

Blanche Neige Embroidered Hankies from France

A boxed set of eight embroidered Snow White handkerchiefs from France. Names printed in French. Probably date from circa 1938. Similar in style to the US sets, however, those images featured the character's entire body.

"Disney Hanky Show"

The Disney Hanky Show is another of several unique handkerchief packaging designs (also see the Hankyventures book). The fold-out cardboard diorama is made to look like a theater. The "box seats" along each side are filled with early Disney characters including all of the Seven Dwarfs. A cut-out of Happy is also among those up on stage. The background frame holds the four removable cloth hankies: Pinocchio, Donald Duck, Thumper, and Doc. Possibly dates from the 1940s or 50s.

"Disneyland Hankies" Boxed Set

Disneyland Hankies is a six-piece boxed set that dates from the 1940s, pre-dating the Anaheim theme park. Features embroidered character designs of Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio, Donald Duck, Bambi, Thumper, and Snow White. Tag on each reads, "Cotton" and "Made In Northern Ireland." Box measures 5.25" x 7.25" x .5".

1938 Snow White Print Handkerchiefs

In addition to the many embroidered handkerchiefs (earlier post) that were produced during the initial run of Snow White, a myriad of printed hanky designs were also available. White linen with multi-color character artwork. They typically measure about 8.5" square. All are marked with the imprint, "W.D. Ent." and some with "1938" as well. According to Cecil Munsey's 1974 Disneyana book (p.46), the Bernhard Wolf Company of New York was the manufacturer.

Snow White with forest animals + four dwarfs + Snow White with dwarfs.

Seven Dwarfs marching in circle.

Snow White on horseback as dwarfs and bunnies look on. (No Sneezy, presumably since he would be the one using the handkerchief.)

The hankies were sold in boxed sets. This one has four.
