Vintage Greeting Cards by Gibson

Gibson Greeting Cards published this Snow White birthday card from the 1980s. Embossed raised figures. Dimensions: 7.75" x 5.25". "Happy Birthday to Someone Special."

___

They also created a Snow White "get well soon" series in the 1950s, referred to as the 7 Day Illness Card Set. A stiff paper envelope (5" x 6") housed seven numbered greeting cards (4" x 4"). The idea was to "Send One A Day For A Week." The set is pictured in Hake's Official Price Guide to Disney Collectibles (2nd edition, 2007, p.859).

1937 Mechanical Snow White Birthday Card

This Snow White birthday card is dated 1937, from the time of the world premiere of the Disney film. Yet, although there are clear similarities in how the princess is drawn, this is not a Disney licensed product. The die-cut mechanical card (5.5" x 4.5") features a hidden wheel that when turned, reveals in the doorway each of the seven generic dwarfs with their own birthday greeting.

The first dwarf wishes you joy.

The second brings greetings.

The third wishes you gladness.

The fourth says "cheerio" & the fifth hopes you'll be happy.

The sixth wishes you good fortune & the seventh knows you'll have fun.

Inside.

Manufacturer imprint on back of card, This'll Win--Messengers of Sunshine.

1940 Walt Disney Studio Xmas Card

The 1940 Disney Studio Christmas Card features the Fantasia Snowflake Fairy spelling out the word "Greetings" while other flakes float in the air above.

It opens up to the fairy writing "from Walt Disney".

Blue card images via Hakes.

It opens further to reveal the cast from Fantasia with conductor Leopold Stokowski on the far left. Also included is the Reluctant Dragon and that film's star Robert Benchly (far right). Plus they are joined by Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pinocchio, Snow White and Dopey--all singing Christmas carols.

The artwork was created by Hank Porter. Card is on stiff textured paper and measures 5.5" x 6" and is 22" long when fully open. Also see Hank's 1938 pen and ink Christmas Carolers illustration in an earlier Archive entry.

Collector Bob Cowan has posted on his Cowan Collection site the same 1940 Disney Studio card, but in these photos, it appears to be more purple in color.
