UK Palmolive Promotional Card

In an earlier post, we admired the vintage Snow White paperdoll cards that Palmolive sponsored in Belgium. Now we see Palmolive had its promotional mojo going in the United Kingdom too. This shop counter-top promo card features the Princess and Dwarfs beside a bar of soap. Snow's speech balloon reads: "FOR A SNOW WHITE COMPLEXION USE PALMOLIVE SOAP."

Card measures approximately 19.5" x 15.5" (50 x 40cm). Probably dates from circa 1938.

The promotion was for soap bars and a Snow White storybook, all for only one shilling. The text at the top of the circle is quite faded but reads:
PALMOLIVE BEAUTY SOAP
3 CAKES OF PALMOLIVE SOAP & A BEAUTIFUL COLOURED STORY BOOK
SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS
FEATURING THE WASHING SONG
THE COMBINATION FOR 1/-

In the lower right-hand corner, we're questioned on our knowledge of the Bluddle-Uddle-Um-Dum lyrics...
"DO YOU KNOW THE WASHING SONG? IT'S IN THE BOOK!"

Palmolive Paper Doll Cards

Snow White Card #12

Issued in Belgium by Palmolive Soap, this Snow White paper doll cut-out set of 12 collector cards dates from circa 1938-39. Each measures approximately 4.75" x 6.25" (120mm x 160mm). All of the characters including the forest animals are printed in multicolored illustrations on regular cardstock. The copyright on the front reads "PAR AUT. WALT DISNEY--MICKEY MOUSE S.A."

The backside of each card is identical except for the numbers (1-12). The text is written in both French and Dutch and describes the set of paper doll cut-outs.

In addition, the back of the card mentions a board game called "Villa Palmolive" which was purchased separately from retailers. It cost one Franc. Apparently, the game was not initially designed for the Snow White figures but was now being promoted in conjunction with the paper dolls.

The cards came packaged not inside the actual soap bar wrappers but instead as a complete set of 12 inside this Palmolive envelope. You received the cards when you purchased a special pack of 12 soap bars. "You'll get a card with every 'bar' of Palmolive..."

Soaky Bubble Bath Banks

The Colgate-Palmolive Company manufactured a couple variations of their Snow White "Soaky" Bubble Bath bottle. This first example has a soft plastic head and body, the head functioning as the top to the container. On the back side is a slot that can be cut open for use as a coin bank. Probably dates from the late 1950s or early '60s.

A second version dates from the late 1960s and includes movable arms. The entire torso functions as the container top. Hard plastic upper with soft plastic bottom. Stands approximately 10.5" tall.

This "movable arms" version appeared in the 1967 pressbook Merchandising Supplement (p.11). Also pictured is the Dopey Soaky. Suggested retail price was just 69¢. A color photo of the Snow bottle is found in the 2007 Hake's Official Price Guide to Disney Collectibles, 2nd edition (p.862).

The later version, hard plastic upper with soft plastic bottom. Dopey is a slightly shorter than the 10.5" Snow White bottle. Both hold 11 ozs.
