Inflatable EuroVinil Figures from Italy

In 1969, Italian cheese producer Galbani ran a Disney promotion with their BEBÈ creme cheese spread. A series of 24 inflatable rubber characters were given away, including Snow White, Grumpy, and Dopey. Manufactured by EuroVinil. Approximately 14 cm long.

Circa 1972, EuroVinil issued a different style of inflatable character. The series included Biancaneve and Cucciolo.

Snow White Toss-Up Balloon by Oak Rubber Co.

In an earlier Archive entry, we saw catalog pages for several Snow White (and other Disney) balloons from the late 1930s. Today we have an actual balloon still in its original package. Manufactured by the Oak Rubber Company in Ravenna, Ohio, it's what was referred to as a "toss-up" design. Features a two-chambered balloon and includes a die-cut cardboard backer with printed "shoes" on one side.

From the catalog scan, we see that Snow White is printed on the front with the Seven Dwarfs on the opposite side. 'After the balloon is inflated, the nozzle is pulled through a small hole in the center of the feet and then through a slit in the back. The balloon stands upright with a weighted pair of cardboard feet. According to the advertising copy, you toss it in the air, and it lands on its feet every time.' Catalog Pages for Snow White Balloons by Oak Rubber Co.

Due to their inherent ephemeral nature, balloons produced during the premiere run of Snow White are not the easiest of things to come by. We can, however, get a pretty good idea of what they looked like by perusing some of the catalogs of the era.

The primary licensee of early Disney balloons was the Oak Rubber Company of Ravenna, Ohio. Their Oak Hytex Toy Balloons were made from virgin rubber and came in different shapes and sizes--round, tall, some with ears or noses, others with attachable feet. A wholesale catalog (no. 389) was issued in 1938 (48 glossy full-color pages, 7.75" x 10.75").

Fifteen pages featured Disney character balloons, with two dedicated to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Round balloons were imprinted with illustrated scenes on one side and text on the other (10" and 12" diameter versions). The paddle-shaped "airships" featured individual characters (7" x 18"). The "toss-up" novelties came with cardboard feet (13" or 20" high versions). All are printed with two colors except for the dwarf toss-ups.

The inside cover show a variety of balloons including a yellow/red Dopey toss-up toy, a green/yellow Snow White paddle-shape, and a blue/red toss-up.

The text includes games and promotional schemes involving balloons.

A four-page glossy supplement to catalog no. 389 was published in 1940.

Oak Hytex Toy Balloons were also available in other 1938 wholesale catalogs. The N. Shure Company of Chicago was offering the 20" Snow White toss-up for 35¢/dozen or $4.00/gross. An illustration of Snow on one side, the dwarfs on the other.

The same toss-up also appeared in the Gellman Brothers publication. Identical price for the two-side illustrated balloon, but slightly cheaper for ones without the dwarfs. The catalog also included the paddle-shaped balloons for $2.25/assorted gross.

On the next page, we see the one-color toss-up dwarfs for $1.00/gross. The round "print" balloons are also pictured for $3.05/gross (10") and $3.50/gross (12").

Twenty years later, the Oak Rubber Company was still producing Disney balloons that were featured in the 1958 US Snow White pressbook (p.6).

Snow White Bouncers

When this post was first started, it was because I'd stumbled upon this first Snow White-themed inflatable bouncer. I thought it was sort of unique, a one-of-a-kind deal. I was mistaken.

Available for rental from Bounce Around in Auckland, New Zealand, this blow up Snow White Bouncer is hired out for kids birthday parties, school events and public functions. Cost per hire: $195.00 (NZD), 5 hour hire, extra time $50 per hour. Sorry no Adult Bouncy Castles available. Ages up to 5 years only.

Next I found this Snow White Bouncer offered by Argo Production House in Hong Kong.

Then the bouncers started popping up all over the place in Google searches. The Snow White Bouncy Castle is available for rental, £65 a day from Bounce Krazee. Located in High Wycombe, UK, they rent out inflatables in Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Middlesex and Oxfordshire. This one's for ages up to 12 years old.

Bouncy Snow White, £60.00 a day from Sasaquads in London, UK.

Snow White Bouncer, £50 a day from Bump 'n' Jump in Hampshire, UK.

Snow White Jump-n-Slide, from Fun Play Inflatables in Bucharest, Romania + another Snow White Bouncer, $95 a day from Candy the Happiest Clown in Miami, Florida.

The Disney Princess Castle from Bounce Arena in the Hudson Valley of New York + the Disney Princess Combo, $250 a day from Awesome Party Inflatables in Tampa, Florida.

If you haven't gotten enough, there are plenty more Snow White inflatables out there for all your bouncing pleasure.
