1944 Walt Disney Fuzzy Wall Plaques

Walt Disney Fuzzy Wall Plaques were die-cut cardboard figures with a velvety felt surface. They were marketed for use in children's nursery rooms. Three boxed sets were available--Mickey Mouse, Bambi, and Snow White.

Snow White eight-piece set. Figures measure between 5" and 8.75".

The three series are pictured in a 1944 wholesale catalog from N. Shure Co.

Similar non-felt cutout figures were used in 1946 as premiums for subscribers of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories. See them in an earlier Archive entry.

Disneyland Pin-Ups by Dolly Toy Company

In the late 1950s, The Dolly Toy Company of Tipp City, Ohio manufactured a series of Disneyland Pin-Ups. Made of thick pressboard material, these character cutouts were meant for decorating walls in children's nurseries and playrooms.

The Snow White set includes five separate pieces. No. 269.

Snow White and the Seven Elves? Um...what?

Some pieces have no markings on the reverse side. Others include a manufacturer's imprint (that refers to them as "Fairytale" Pin-Ups rather than "Disneyland").

Original box measures 12"x18".

Other Disney sets included Cinderella (no. 259), Sleeping Beauty (no. 314), Bambi (no. 319).

Carroccio Biancaneve "Cut-Out" Doll Book

In an earlier post, we saw Snow White paper dolls featured in the 1938 Dean's Cut-Out Book, published by Dean & Sons Ltd. of London. The same book was also issued in Italy under the title, Albo di Costruzioni Biancaneve ei Sette Nani. It was published circa 1940 by Carroccio of Milan. Licensed by "Creazioni Walt Disney S.A.I." Measures approximately 9.5" x 13.5" (25 x 34 cm).

A forest cottage scene is displayed on the inside covers, making a nice backdrop for the paper dolls.

Over 45 cut-out figures were printed on two separate sheets (see them with the Dean book mentioned above). The back cover shows a scene with all of the paper dolls displayed in front of the forest backdrop. The instructions tell users to carefully cut the figures out and to place them upright in their support stands.

1938 Snow White Paper Doll Book, Whitman No. 970 (Orphan Annie red cover)

In an earlier Archie entry, we saw the blue cover edition of this Whitman paper doll book, no. 970. Sold in stores, it featured Snow White alone on the front except for a couple of deer. The red cover version was a premium give-away for listeners of the Little Orphan Annie radio show. Snow White is joined here on the front by Sneezy and Doc. Book size: 12" x 17".

Included with this particular book was a note from Little Orphan Annie. It was written to the child who received it in 1938. It states that because thousands and thousands of children sent away for their Snow White cut-out book (Whitman No. P-77), they actually ran out and couldn't get any more. But they were lucky because children would now receive this more expensive book.

1938 Snow White Cut-Out Book, Whitman No. 974 (Orphan Annie P-77)

In 1938, Whitman Publishing Company produced a trove of Snow White-themed books for Disney. Among them was no. 974, one of several featuring cut-out dolls. Includes a total of four inside pages, plus the front and back covers--all made of stiff thick card stock. Book size: 13" x 13".

A near identical book (no. P-77) was offered by Ovaltine as a listener premium from the popular Little Orphan Annie radio show. It's the same in every way except for the pages--which are made from stiff paper (rather than the thicker card stock). The P-77 edition was sent out in mailing envelopes with an Orphan Annie return address. Note that the book number is indicated in the lower left corner of the front cover

First page includes the wash trough, Queen's spell-book podium, an extra tree, and cottage roof.

Demand for the Ovaltine premium exceeded expectations and they ran out of books to ship. So a replacement was produced which we'll see in the next post.
