Formation Arts Snow White Figures

A series of Snow White PVC bust-like figures were produced circa 2007. Manufactured by Square Enix/Formation Arts. Each piece measures about 4.75" to 5" high. Designed and sold in Japan; available in the US and European markets too. A collection of four was released in a boxed set.

The four included "Woodland Friends", "Hi Ho Hi Ho", "Take a Bite and Make a Wish" and "Someday My Prince Will Come".

The figures were also meant to be tradable. In Japan, a fifth figure was added to a blind box of six. Buyers wouldn't know which characters they got until opening the package. The fifth piece is the "Happily Ever After" scene.

Disney Princess Bust Statue Collection by Takara Tomy

A series of five Disney Princess vending machine gashapon figures were released in Japan by Takara Tomy Arts in the fall of 2014. The collection includes the unpainted figural busts of Aurora, Rapunzel, Belle, Ariel, and Snow White. Measure between 2.5"- 2.75" tall. High-grade PVC plastic. Each sold separately.

1995 Bronze Statue of Old Witch

In 1995, Wolf Head Productions and Disney produced a bronze bust of the Old Hag. Sculpted by artist David W. Smith. Expressive detailed face. Separate bronze sculpture of red poison apple in her hand. The set is a numbered limited edition of 100. Heavy piece. Measures approximately 18" x 13". Originally sold exclusively at the Disneyana Shop in Disneyland.

Hag Bust by Britto

A colorful Hag Bust by Britto. Stone resin. Measures 5" high x 5.5" long x 4.125 deep. Introduced to retailers in September 2014. Estimated availability is March 2015. Distributed by Enesco.

2014 Dopey Bust from Enesco/Grand Jester

This brand new Dopey figure is part of the Disney Bust Series by Enesco and Grand Jester Studios. Introduced to retailers in January 2014, the stone resin piece has started showing up as a pre-order item online. Estimated availability to customers is this month or next. Measures 6" high. Limited edition of 3000. SRP $65.00.

"Snow White" Character Mini-Busts by Enesco / Grand Jester / Sideshow

A lot of players have been involved with the creation of the Disney Bust Series--a collection of hand-painted, highly detailed, polystone resin character mini-busts. The Disney Company licensed Enesco to manufacture the line. Grand Jester Studios was employed to make the original figs. With the Evil Queen example below, well-known artist Romandy-Simmons came up with the design sketch, sculptor Jacqueline Perrault Gonzales made it a reality, and Sideshow Collectibles handled distribution.

The Evil Queen stands 8" (203.2mm) tall. Limited edition of 3000. First introduced to retailers in June 2012, the figure was available for purchase April 2013. SRP $85.00.

Snow White Maquette

"Maquette" is French for scale model, and it usually refers to a small preliminary model which can be used as a reference for a sculpture, a building, or in our case, an animated character. Its purpose is to test the idea in 3D form, to work out the bugs before investing the time, money and effort necessary for producing the final product. And for the animator, the maquette helps with the visualization/creation process.

It was December 1935 when Marc Davis, one of the grand masters of Disney animation, took upon himself to sculpt this Snow White maquette. It is one of the first, if not the first, animation maquette ever made.

The modern-day maquette is an essential component in the filmmaking process for animated films as well as in live-action scenes requiring CGI. Gentle Giant Studios is one of the players in this field, having worked on such movies as Avatar, the Harry Potter franchise, and Ratatouille to name just a few.

Alice Davis, administrator of the Davis Family Trust, furnished the original Snow White maquette to Gentle Giant Studios for scanning reference in the creation of a 250 limited edition authorized reproduction of Marc Davis' classic work. The piece measures approx. 9" high.

Snow White Collector Note: At the time of this writing, the Marc Davis Snow White maquette reproduction is currently being offered on ebay for around $70 (USD).
