Hank Porter Carolers Illustration

Working in the Disney Studio Publicity Department, artist Hank Porter created this 1938 Christmas Carolers illustration. In the center of the piece, Dopey holds a lamp while Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Pluto sing holiday tunes. They are joined by the Three Little Pigs and more--including a host of forest animals--something Hank was asked to help animate during the making of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Original pen and ink artwork drawn on illustration board. Large image area approximately 16.5" x 20.75". The one-of-a-kind piece sold for $47,800.00 via Heritage Auctions on November 19, 2010.

1938 "PIC" Magazine Photos from Carthay Circle Premiere

Here on the 78th anniversary of the world premiere of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, we take a look back at a few images shot by photographer Art Carter from that grand evening. They appeared in the March 8, 1938 issue of PIC magazine.

As the caption reads, these two teens arrived at 8 AM to claim their spots on the bleachers.

And here the two girls are that evening surrounded by the rest of the crowd.

Hollywood Reporter Dec 9, 1937 - Carthay Circle Ticket Announcement

An advertisement for tickets to the Carthay Circle World Premiere of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs appeared in the Thursday December 9, 1937 issue of The Hollywood Reporter.

On Page Two, a short blurb announces the premiere at the Carthay Circle Threatre with a $5 "top" ticket price. (With tax, they were actually going for $5.50 as noted in the ad below.)

Limit four tickets per person. Price $5.50 each, including tax. Film start 8:45pm.
