Gyo Fujikawa (1908-1998) was born in Berkley, California. An artist and author of over 50 children's books, she is known for being one of the first illustrators to include different races together in her work. She was also employed by Disney. In the early 1940s, she was part of their advertising art department. She designed the program for the roadshow theatrical release of Fantasia during its premiere run to select cities.
In 1952, she created an original gouache watercolor featuring the Seven Dwarfs discovering Snow White asleep in bed. The piece was offered at auction in 2011. Dimensions: 8.75" x 7.5".
The artwork appeared on the cover of the May 1952 issue of Children's Digest.
