2017 "Art of Snow White" at D23

Disney is commemorating the 80th anniversary of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs this year with the Art of Snow White collection. Some of the merchandise--which was previewed at the 2017 D23 Expo in July--was listed online at the Disney Store yesterday, July 31. Dolls to be released brick & mortar today and online August 2nd! Remaining items will be available to the general public August 3rd.

Among the items produced are a notecard set, journal, snowglobe, mug set, pins, dolls, and more. Details to follow in upcoming Archive entries.

2015 Disney Fairytale Designer Collection - Dolls

In 2011, Snow White was part of the popular Princess Designer Collection. In 2012, the Evil Queen was unveiled in the Villains Designer Collection. Then both Snow and her Prince were in the 2013 Fairytale Designer Collection. Now she's back once more--this time with the Old Witch--in the 2015 Fairytale Designer Collection.

Created from artwork by Steve Thompson, the Principle Designer for the creative team at the Disney Store, this year's Fairytale Designer Collection 'celebrates the relationship between good and evil' and features five sets of limited edition collector doll pairs of heroes and villains. Limited to 6,000 globally. Each comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

In addition to Snow White and the Witch, the sets include Peter Pan and Captain Hook, Rapunzel and Mother Gothel, Ariel and Ursula, and Elsa and Hans.

The new series was first announced on July 23, 2015 at the D23 Disney Fan site and on the Disney Store blog. The merchandise would then be debuted at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, August 14-16, where attendees would have the opportunity to pre-order the entire doll caboodle.

The complete doll set was posted online at the Disney Store around August 12th but could not be purchased until yesterday, September 14th. They are now sold out.

Keeping with the theme of this Archive, we'll focus our attention on Snow White and the Witch, but the details of all the pairs are similar. Made of plastic. Each complete set was limited to one per guest. Retail for all five doll pairs was $649.75. The five will be released separately for purchase in stores and online starting about September 29. A new doll pair will be issued each week. Retail $129. Snow White measures approximately 11.5" tall, the Witch 9.5".

2008 Snow White's Garden Collection - Statues

The statues are the pièce de résistance of the Disney Store 2008 Snow White's Garden Collection. Made of resin, the series includes Snow, the Seven Dwarfs, and three animal friends.

The princess weighs approximately 7 pounds and measures 20" high.

Snow came boxed with a rabbit, chipmunk, and squirrel--all around 4" high.

Placed side-by-side, the figures make a nice feature. The Dwarfs measure approximately 10"-12" high. The series includes three solar-powered pieces: Doc's lantern, Dopey's diamond, and the bug on Sneezy's nose.

All of the statues are pictured on the back of the box for the birdhouse (previous post). The Dwarfs were sold in sets of two: Sleepy and Doc, Bashful and Sneezy, Happy and Dopey. Grumpy went solo along with a mine car planter (10.5" high x 13" long x 9" deep).

The statues don't often come up for auction online. Yet we do get a good look here at the entire group in these photos from Robin Knight via Collectors Quest.

In 2010, the set was seen in a yard on Noble Street in Brooklyn. (Happy must have been off playing somewhere.)
