Hachette "The Dwarfs' Cottage" book

In an earlier Archive entry, we saw the 1954 French book, Le retour de Blanche-Neige (The Return of Snow White). It was published by Hachette in their Les Albums Roses series of children's books.

Another title was added to the series in 1955, La maison des nains (The Dwarfs' Cottage). Hardcover with 27 pages. Includes color illustrations. Also pictured is a 1965 reprint.

In 1959, The Dwarfs' Cottage story was republished in Il était une fois (Once Upon a Time). Snow White and the dwarfs are pictured on the cover. The hardcover book contains two stories, La maison des nains being the first. The second is Noah's Ark which does not include Snow White.

2001 Blanche Neige 3D Storybook

2001 Le Journal de Mickey - No. 2574 & 2575

With the 2001 DVD home video release of Snow White in France, Le Journal de Mickey marked the occasion in their October 17th issue, no. 2574. Cool artwork on the cover, inked by artist François Pasquet. Published by Hachette.

1992 Le Journal de Mickey - No. 2068

With the return of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to French cinemas on February 12, 1992, Le Journal de Mickey included a six-page Blanch Neige article in their February 7th issue, no. 2068. Published in France by Hacthette and distributed to other French-speaking countries too.

Also during this time, Le Journal de Mickey issued a series of fact sheets dedicated to the Disney Villains. The first to be released was The Evil Queen.

1983 Le Journal de Mickey - Blanche Neige Comic

This Snow White comic strip was first published as a Sunday newspaper serial in the United States. It began on March 13, 1983 and ended 16 weeks late on June 26. It was written by Carl Fallberg with artwork by Richard Moore.

It was reprinted later that year in several other countries including France, where it was published in four parts by Hachette in Le Journal de Mickey. Each installment is spread across eight pages for a total of 32. Snow White or the dwarfs are pictured on the cover of each of the four issues.

• No. 1639 - November 27, 1983. Part one of the comic begins as the movie does, with the Queen talking to her Magic Mirror. Snow White meets the Prince at the Wishing Well. The Queen sends the Huntsman out with the princess to kill her.

• No. 1640 - December 4, 1983. Part two picks up with Snow White running through the dark forest. Her new animal friends lead her to the cottage where they clean it. The dwarfs arrive home with the princess asleep on their beds.

• No. 1641 - December 11, 1983. In part three, the dwarfs discover Snow White. They eat, sing and dance together. The Queen turns herself into the Old Hag.

The free two-sided poster came with 12 self-adhesive stickers to fill in the white squares. With a total of 36 spaces, readers would need to purchase the next two issues of the magazine in order to get the rest of the stickers to complete the poster.

The opposite side is the movie poster design from the 1983 French re-release.

• No. 1642 - December 18, 1983. Part four concludes the story with the Old Witch, poison apple, the dwarfs to the rescue, and the Prince's kiss.

1973 Le Journal de Mickey - No. 1120

A four-part Snow White story was published by Hachette in the 1973 French comic book, Le Journal de Mickey. We saw part one in the previous post. This is the second installment with the comic appearing on eight pages. Seven other (non-Snow White) serial stories are also included in this issue. No. 1120. December 2, 1973.

An advertisement by La vache qui rit cheese also appeared in this comic book. They were offering 13 Snow White stickers, one in each package.

1973 Le Journal de Mickey - No. 1119

To coincide with the December 5, 1973, re-release of Blanche Neige et les Sept Nains to cinemas in France, the first of four installments of a comic story was published by Hachette in the November 25, 1973 issue of Le Journal de Mickey, no. 1119. The magazine also included a fold-out Snow White poster.

A little Snow White history is given in the editorial on the inside front cover.

This first part of the story covered eight pages and included both new artwork and re-rendered panels from Hank Porter's 1937-38 newspaper strip.

1962 Le Journal de Mickey - Blanche Neige Comic Redux

In the previous post, we saw the issues of Le Journal de Mickey from 1938 which featured the French version of the original Hank Porter-illustrated Snow White comic strip. Twenty four years later, the comic was brought back in Le Journal to commemorate the December 12, 1962 re-release of the motion picture in France.

The first installment of this Snow White serial was included in no. 550, a special 40-page edition of the magazine. Published by Hachette. It's interesting to note that some of the panels from the original comic were not included in this modified version. An advertisement for the special edition appeared the week before in the December 2, 1962 Journal de Mickey, no. 549.
