Collins 'Snow White' Colouring Book from UK

Walt Disney's Snow White Colouring Book was first published in 1938 by Collins Clear-Type Press, London and Glasgow. Full-color cover with black and white illustrations inside for coloring. Measures 21 x 29 cm (8.25" x 11.5").

Author Richard Holliss shared these images from his collection. This book originally belonged to his mum who held onto it because she always loved the film. She also liked painting as a youngster. These two pages show off her colorful artistic style as a child.

In the 1940s, a second edition was issued. New cover but the content is almost identical to the first version.

Snow White Storybook by Collins

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs illustrated storybook published in 1938 by Collins of London and Glasgow. Hardcover with dust jacket. Measures 10" x 7.5". A total of 77 pages.

Although this book sports unique artwork on the cover, the contents (title page, pagination and endpapers) are identical to other books issued in the same time period, including another Collins version and the Harper & Bros. / Grosset & Dunlap first editions.

Walt Disney's Snow White Sketch Book

Walt Disney's Sketch Book of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. First published in 1938 by William Collins & Sons, London. Hardcover with dust jacket, 84 pages (including endpapers). As the title suggests, the book included concept art from the making of the film, plus 12 full-color plates.

The color plates featured Snow White, Queen, Witch, Prince, Seven Dwarfs, and the Forest Animals. These would later be reprinted in England as a set of "Collector Print Primer Cards" used to raise money for the war effort. See all 12 in an earlier Archive entry.

In 1993, the book was reproduced as a Gold Edition, limited to 2,000 copies. Published by Applewood Books. Housed inside a slipcase. Covers with Gilt gold text. The set also included separate lithographs of the 12 color plates, along with a Certificate of Authenticity. Sold exclusively at the theme parks.

The lithos came in a portfolio, which in turn fit inside the slipcase along with the book.

Also in 1993, a Collectors Edition was issued, limited to 2500 copies. Published by Applewood Books, ISBN: 1557092087. Housed in black slipcase with the cover color panel artwork.

UK Collins Edition of the Grosset & Dunlap Book

Circa 1938, a UK version of the classic Grosset & Dunlap book was published by Collins. It features a gorgeous full color cover illustration not found on the US version. Hardcover. Measures 11" x 8". Both editions contain the 80 identical pages inside, with color and B+W illustrations.

The title on the cover simply reads Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. On the US edition, it is referred to as The Complete Story of Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The title pages, however, for the UK and US editions match in that they both leave off the phrase, The Complete Story of.
