1938 Snow White Ink Blotters

Classroom ink blotters were once a normal part of every school classroom. For better or worse, they quite often included printed advertisements to appeal to children. In earlier Archive entries, we saw ink blotters for Snow White Bread, Cadum Soap Cards, and Camembert Cheese.

However, the following Snow White ink blotters feature no commercial advertisements, except to promote the Disney film itself. They are marked, "© Walt Disney Enterprises". Each is small, measuring approximately 7" x 3.125". Thick card stock. Reverse side is blank.

It's likely additional Snow White blotters were produced for this series, although we have not yet come across any others.

Vintage Ink Blotter Bread Promotion

A classroom ink blotter from 1938-39. Flexible card stock. Dimensions: 4" x 9". Features Dopey holding a loaf of Snow White Bread. Text reads, If I could talk, I'd SHOUT for Todd's Anna Marie Snow White Bread. Property of Walt Disney's Snow White and Seven Dwarfs Club member. This same artwork was used in newspaper ads during this time period.

It was not uncommon back in the day for school classrooms to be supplied with ink blotters which contain advertisements directed at children. In an earlier post, see French ink blotters for Cadum Soap cards.

2004 Random House "Step Into Reading" Book

Friends for a Princess is a Snow White book designed to help young children learn to read. Part of the Random House "Step Into Reading" series. Softcover, 32 pages (not including covers). Dimensions: 6" x 9". Published in 2004.

2001 'Snow White' Read-Along Book & Cassette / Compact Disc (Mary D'Arcy)

It's hard to imagine today, yet it really wasn't that long ago when people still listened to audio cassettes. The technology was dying and on its way out, but the small children's niche continued to hang on for a time. The "Read-Along" series was designed to build vocabulary and encourage independent reading in youngsters.

This Snow White recording was first released in 1992. This version dates from 2001. Story narration by Mary D'Arcy. Introduction performed by Corey Burton. Some dialog taken from original soundtrack but mainly from voices actors hired for this production. The set includes a 24-page booklet and cassette tape. Walt Disney Records. Catalog no. 60562-4. ISBN: 0763419559. Sealed in blister pack.

The story was also issued on compact disc with a bonus cassette tape. Catalog no. 60496-2. The booklet was expanded to 32 pages. A couple slightly different packaging versions were produced.

1982 Blanche Neige School Slides

Long before internet searches and PowerPoint presentations, the multimedia choices available to schools usually consisted of films on reels, filmstrips, and slides. Here we have a Snow White 35mm slide program that was designed by Fernand Nathan for a classroom curriculum in France. Includes a total of 24 slides with corresponding text in a six-page booklet, plus colorful covers. Copyright 1982. Published in Paris.

1938 Snow White Notebook

Snow White In School VHS Program

This Walt Disney Home Video VHS tape features a Snow White "In School Program" that was used as a teaching tool in younger classrooms. It is titled, "Working Together Works Wonders." Narrated by longtime Disney voice actor Mark Elliot.

The tape is not dated but does feature the Sorcerer Mickey Home Video logo at the beginning. This was used from the mid 1980s until 2001.

Mark Elliot informs us of five lessons we can learn from the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs story. They emphasize believing in yourself and cooperating with others.

The video uses clips from the motion picture to teach these five lessons. After each one, students are encouraged to think of how these have come into play in their own lives. A classroom discussion is encouraged.
