2016 Shanghai Disney Resort Snow White Doll

On June 16, 2016, the Shanghai Disney Resort opened to the public. In November of that year, a limited edition Snow White vinyl doll was released to commemorate the grand opening. Edition size: 1200. Doll stands 17" tall. Sold exclusively at the resort. Original price ¥699 (Chinese yuan).

This Shanghai Snow White doll is similar to the 17" 2009 Disney Store version (seen in an earlier Archive entry). Also compare to the 2017 D23 Snow White (in another post from this year).

Snow White LED Light

This Snow White LED light was seen on ebay in Fall 2016. Displays seven different colors; you choose or set on auto changing mode. USB power adapter. Approximately 10" high. Comes from China. Retail between $18 - $25. Probably not officially licensed by Disney.

Chinese Snow White Book

This Snow White book was produced in China for a Chinese readership. It's small, like a flip-book. The cover illustration more or less depicts the Disney characters as we'd all recognize them today. On the pages inside, however, the pen and ink drawings are wholly original, with Snow White and the others rendered in a distinctive stylized manner. The story also includes those aspects from the Grimm's fairytale that were not included in the animated film, e.g., the three attempts on Snow White's life via bodice, comb, and apple. Softcover, 20 pages (including covers). The quality of the paper is like that of a comic book. Not Disney licensed. From the ideograms on the back cover, we know it dates from May 1, 1982.

Snow White "Moon Cake" Tins from Hong Kong

This set of Snow White tins originally held moon cakes. Moon cakes are a traditional food eaten in Chinese and Vietnamese cultures during the Mid-Autumn Festival--a harvest fest usually celebrated on the night of the full moon nearest to the autumnal equinox.

The Snow White tin is slightly larger and is surrounded by the seven smaller dwarf tins. This is symbolic of the Chinese idiom "七星伴月" which means the moon (月) is accompanied by seven (七) stars (星).

The set of eight was sold at Hong Kong Disneyland as well as in other stores in Hong Kong. The Snow tin measures approximately 4" diameter x 2" high (10 x 5 cm). The dwarfs are 3.5" x 1.75" (9 x 4.5 cm).

The side panel design on the Snow White tin differs from that on the Seven Dwarfs'.

I bought this set in April 2014 from an ebayer in Hong Kong. He couldn't recall what year he'd purchased them new, but Hong Kong Disneyland did not open until September 2005. So they probably date from about this time period.

Seven Dwarfs PVC Figures from Hong Kong

These unlicensed Seven Dwarfs PVC figures have been manufactured in Hong Kong since at least 2010 (and probably earlier). They're still available today in great numbers from various online sellers in China. Each measures approximately 1.75" (5cm).

Many of the sets include a Snow White--the same mold used for the 1993 Mattel collection--a series that hasn't been officially produced for years.

No Disney markings are found on the dwarfs.
