Screen Guide Magazine - April 1938

The first few were pages here were published in the April 1938 Screen Guide magazine which featured Tyrone Power on the cover.

In his blog entries from May 21 and 23, 2009, collector Bob Cowan posted these pages. Here's what he wrote about the magazine's Photo Parade section which show the original voice actors next to their individual character:

It's my favorite because you can see the faces of those that were the voices in the movie AND you can see some of the similarities between the actors and the movie characters... NOTE: be sure and check out the photos of Pinto Colvig (more widely known as the voice of Goofy).

And this set of pages with illustrations that were to be used in the Harper & Brothers deluxe edition book, said to be released on December 1st of that year.

1940 Walt Disney Studio Xmas Card

The 1940 Disney Studio Christmas Card features the Fantasia Snowflake Fairy spelling out the word "Greetings" while other flakes float in the air above.

It opens up to the fairy writing "from Walt Disney".

It opens further to reveal the cast from Fantasia with conductor Leopold Stokowski on the far left. Also included is the Reluctant Dragon and that film's star Robert Benchly (far right). Plus they are joined by Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pinocchio, Snow White and Dopey--all singing Christmas carols.

The artwork was created by Hank Porter. Card is on stiff textured paper and measures 5.5" x 6" and is 22" long when fully open. Also see Hank's 1938 pen and ink Christmas Carolers illustration in an earlier Archive entry.



Collector Bob Cowan has posted on his Cowan Collection site the same 1940 Disney Studio card, but in these photos, it appears to be more purple in color.

Marge Belcher Snow White Photos

From collector Bob Cowan comes a couple of images of Marge Champion, known then as Marjorie Belcher. They date from circa 1936 when she was 16 or 17 and employed by Disney as the live-action model for Snow White. For two years, Marge would visit the studio two or three times a month and act out the storyboard scenes for the animators.

These photos appear to be snapshots taken when Marge was on break on the Disney property. They were found in a scrapbook put together by Ingeborg Willy. Ingeborg worked as an inker at the studio from November 23, 1936 to November 26, 1941. (She passed away in 1999.) The scrapbook contained photos, pencil drawings cels, studio memos and other items from the time period. See more at Cowan Collection: Animation and Comic Art.
