Chad Valley Snow White "Skittles" Game

Skittles is an old European lawn bowling game. In 1938, Chad Valley Co. Ltd. of Harborne, England manufactured a Snow White skittles game for children. Includes eight die-cut thick cardboard targets with wood bases. Snow White is about 5" tall, the dwarfs 3". Comes with three wood balls. Box measures 10.5" x 7.5" x 1" high.

The rules are printed on the inside cover. Each player gets four attempts per turn to knock down as many figures as possible. Each dwarf counts as one point, Snow White as three. The player with the most points at the end of play wins.

Chad Valley Seven Dwarfs Shooting Games

Toy and doll manufacturer, Chad Valley of England, produced several variations of a shooting game featuring the Seven Dwarfs. Each came with a flat cardboard gun (approximately 6.5" long) for shooting rubber bands. The die-cut dwarf targets measure about 3" tall.

This first game includes the copyright imprint, "By permission Walt Disney - Mickey Mouse, Ltd." and may date from the late 1930s or early '40s. The dwarfs are set atop the log bridge.

A third game has the dwarfs arranged amongst tree stumps, with Dopey inside a hollow trunk. The backdrop is held upright by two grooved wooden blocks. "Copyright - Walt Disney Productions." Circa 1940s.

Chad Valley "Picture Cubes" Puzzle

Toy and doll manufacturer, Chad Valley of Harborne, England, produced this puzzle set of Snow White Picture Cubes, circa 1938. Imprint reads, "Sole manufacturers by arrangement with Walt Disney - Mickey Mouse Ltd."

The box contains 15 wooden cubes with glossy bright colors. Plus six colored guide sheets--one of Snow White and five others with pairs of dwarfs on each.

The wooden box has a cloth hinge and a metal hook fastener. Solid wood, heavy item. Measures approximately 6" x 9" x 2" high.

Chad Valley Snow White Felt Dolls

Circa 1938, a collection of felt Snow White dolls was created by toy manufacturer Chad Valley of Harborne, England. Molded felt faces with painted features. A black mohair wig for the princess; white mohair beards for the dwarfs. Felt and cloth clothing.

A few different Snow White designs were issued--and according to what we find online--also a couple of different sizes. The smaller princess seems to measure about 32 cm (12.5"), the larger 42 cm (18"). Two sizes for the dwarfs too, about 15 cm (7") and 25 cm (10").

The blue & pink dress. Pink ribbons in hair and pink felt shoes. A smaller doll has all-blue puffed shoulder sleeves. The larger version includes the iconic slashed sleeves which show pink fabric underneath.

Attached by twine to each doll was a double-sided oval name tag, 2.5" long.

The original chipboard boxes are covered in different patterned paper. The end labels read, "Chad Valley - Hygienic Textile Toys" and each has a character name stamp.

Snow White Bagatelle Game by Chad Valley

This Snow White "Bagatelle" pinball game was manufactured in the UK by Chad Valley circa 1938. The game itself sits in the base of the box and is made of tinplate. It comes with 5 colored balls--3 green and 2 blue. A book or other object would be placed under the top end so that the board would slope downward towards the plunger.

A simple game for younger children, the winner would be the one who scored the highest points by propelling the balls into the numbered metal cups. The white balls pictured below might not be the originals (or the colors may have faded).

A later edition of the game from the 1940s featured new cover artwork and a redesigned game board. Box measures just under 19" x 8.5" (48 x 22 cm).

Instructions on the inside cover refer to the game as Seven Dwarfs Bagatelle rather than Snow-White.
