Snow White's Ipad and Other Mashups

All images copyright Minuek Warrier. Used with Permission.

Graphic artist Minuek Warrior's slightly edgy take on Disney's first princess, created in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator:
The Ipad (above) was just a bit of a laugh surrounding all the media attention on the recent Ipad release.

The idea behind the [next two] images was taking something that was pure, in this example Snow White, and adding a destructive element to it. A lot of the early Disney films had a underlying sense of darkness to them and I wanted to reflect that in these pictures.

The image of the gas mask invokes a sense of panic or turmoil.

The Coke can picture was just a little bit of fun really with a bit of a nod to the adbusters and anti-advertising movements, with the witch offering up a can of Coke instead of a poisoned apple.  Minuek Warrior

Fairest in the Land - Artwork of John Alvin

John Alvin created over 15 movie posters for the Disney Studio including Aladdin, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid and the 1993 re-release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (see earlier post on SWSD North American one-sheets).
Alvin was an award-winning cinematic artist and painter who illustrated some of the world's most recognizable movie posters for over 135 films. His style of art for his posters became known as Alvinesque by friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry. He died unexpectedly of a heart attack at the age of 59 on February 6, 2008. A vintage 1938 Dopey tin toy, this piece measures 8" in height and features a fixed wind-up key on back. Turn the key and Dopey waddles along as his eyes move up and down. Great litho detailing throughout on this happy character with top of hat marked "Dopey". Back of piece marked with the Marx logo and "1938 W.D. Ent".

1938 "Popular Science" Snow White Article

Here's a great find by the folks over at the Modern Mechanics blog. Printed soon after the December 1937 premiere of Snow White, the magazine Popular Science Monthly came out with an article on the making of the film in their January 1938 issue.
The piece includes numerous behind-the-scenes accounts including such details as how actor Moroni Olsen--to create the unique resonance for the voice of the Magic Mirror--stuck his head into a box covered with old drumheads.
