Card measures approximately 19.5" x 15.5" (50 x 40cm). Probably dates from circa 1938.
The promotion was for soap bars and a Snow White storybook, all for only one shilling. The text at the top of the circle is quite faded but reads:
PALMOLIVE BEAUTY SOAP
3 CAKES OF PALMOLIVE SOAP & A BEAUTIFUL COLOURED STORY BOOK
SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS
FEATURING THE WASHING SONG
THE COMBINATION FOR 1/-
In the lower right-hand corner, we're questioned on our knowledge of the Bluddle-Uddle-Um-Dum lyrics...
"DO YOU KNOW THE WASHING SONG? IT'S IN THE BOOK!"

Wow, I love vintage advertising, and this item is a beauty. Amazing that it even survived.
ReplyDeleteI dig vintage signage and ads too. Really takes you back to a different time.
DeleteLeon, the gentleman who's collection this piece belongs to keeps it well protected in a frame so it should be with us for a good long time to come. :)
Great article ! Do you have any infos about the book ?
ReplyDeleteNot exactly sure which book the ad was referring to but I hope to find out at some point.
